What is your first language?

First language is defined as the language that a person learned from birth. Very often, that person speaks best in his or her first language. In the case where the person has more than one mother tongue, he or she is a bilingual. This could be due to parents who spoke different languages. In contrast, second language is other language that a person speaks best after his or her first language.

I was born learning Javanese from both my parents and only exposed with Malay language when I started my kindergarten. I took a long time to adapt into Malay. Though these two languages have slight differences here and there, dialects and accents play a big role in correcting similar pronunciations. If you are really good at one, you can actually tell if that person a Java even though he or she has no accent at all.
